Mayakoba Classic attempts world’s largest golf lesson

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — As part of the tournament’s fifth year celebration, the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun will attempt to earn a place among the famous Guinness World Records on Sunday, Jan. 23 when it hosts what it hopes will be the world’s largest golf lesson.

Mayakoba Golf Riviera Maya TulumThe tournament will attempt the record via its highly successful Golf PARa Todos, or Golf FORE Everyone. The four-year golf educational program has been a tremendous success, with attendance soaring near 1,000 each session.

The record, currently recognized by Guinness World Records, occurred on Oct. 9, 2010 at Pine Valley in Beijing, China, when 1,032 people joined a golf lesson. The previous record was 632.

The record breaking attempt will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m., and admission is free. Esteban Toledo, a PGA TOUR player, will be on-site to provide instruction. There will be free transportation from Cancun (departing at 12:15 p.m. from Sport City) and Playa del Carmen (departing at 12:45 p.m. from Boxito and Federal Highway).

Golf FORE Everyone aims to create a fun-filled, diverse and educational program that teaches about the game of golf and its ideals. The program encourages active participation in the game as a participant and as a fan, and facilitates the integration of golf into the lives of all those within the community. Golf FORE Everyone is a monthly community program presented and created by the Mayakoba Golf Classic in conjunction with El Camaleón Golf Club.
