MEXICO CITY – Canada’s Sunwing Travel plans to build a $250 million hotel in the southeastern Mexican state of Quintana Roo, the Tourism Secretariat said.
Sunwing Travel Group CEO Stephen Hunter and vice president Lawrence Elliot revealed the plan to build the hotel during a meeting Monday in Toronto with Mexican Tourism Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu, the secretariat said.
The hotel and tour company plans to build the 1,250-room Royalton Riviera Cancun next year in Puerto Morelos, a city on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
Sunwing Travel operates airlines, tour companies and travel agencies, ranking as the No. 1 marketer of vacation packages for travelers from Canada to Mexico.
